BackgroundCharles Su was educated in Melbourne. He studied Medicine at the University of Melbourne, winning the two undergraduate Ophthalmology medals. His internship and residency were done at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Then he completed a Master of Surgery (University of Melbourne). Ophthalmology registrar years were completed at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He won the medal for excellence in the national final specialist examination taken in 1994. He was an oculoplastic fellow in Brisbane in 1995. In 1995-6 he was a Fellow in the Eye Plastic and Orbital Surgery Service of the University of Michigan's Kellogg Eye Center, USA He has been in private practice and public hospital attendance in Melbourne since 1996. He has published articles in peer reviewed journals including the Archives of Ophthalmology (USA), the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Ophthalmology, The Australian Medical Journal, and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has received an Achievement Award for continuing teaching as an instructor in their annual meeting instruction course program. Dr Daniel Chiu

Ophthalmic Surgeon & Retinal Specialist

Dr Daniel Chiu is a retinal specialist and member of senior medical staff at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
He was a Vitreo-Retinal Fellow at Oxford Eye Hospital and has done a vitreo-retinal fellowship at the RVEEH.

BackgroundDr Chiu is an Ophthalmic Surgeon and Retinal Specialist, graduating with high distinction in Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1992. His early interest in ophthalmology developed during his residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and after being awarded the Cedric Cohen gold medal of excellence and ARVO Travelling Scholarship for the RANZCO Part 1 Ophthalmology examination, he undertook training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne.

After completing his registrar training, he gained his RANZCO Fellow qualification with the KG Howsam gold medal award of excellence and entered fellowship training in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery at the RVEEH. This was followed by further retinal surgery training in the United Kingdom at the Oxford Eye Hospital.

Since returning from overseas more ten years ago, he has entered private practice in the subspecialty field of medical and surgical retinal diseases and serves as a visiting consultant at the Vitreoretinal Unit at the RVEEH and the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Recently, he completed sabbatical leave in the USA and UK where he studied advances in stem cell research and paediatric vitreoretinal surgery. He has also a particular interest in posterior ocular trauma surgery, complex combined anterior and posterior segment surgery and transcleral sutured posterior chamber intraocular lens placement.

Dr Chiu has published and co-authored several research articles in local and international ophthalmology journals and continues his enthusiastic involvement in teaching and training of junior ophthalmology registrars and international vitreoretinal fellows.

Having migrated from Hong Kong at an early age, Dr Chiu remains fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, allowing him to provide a wider scope of retinal services to his patients and referrers.

Dr Elaine Wong

Dr Elaine Wong is a consultant ophalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, proficient in both adult and paediatric ophthalmology with a sub-specialisation in strabismus, or squint.

BackgroundDr Elaine Wong is a consultant ophthalmologist, expert in both adult and paediatric ophthalmology with sub-specialty expertise in Ocular-Motility. She has been a consultant for over 10 years in both private practice (at Berwick, Box Hill and Springvale) and in the public health system (at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital – RVEEH – and the Royal Melbourne Hospital) where she consults, operates and mentors trainee ophthalmologists in ocular-motility.

Doctor Wong graduated with honours from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. She completed her Ophthalmology fellowship in Ocular-Motility at the RVEEH, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. Doctor Wong is a member of the Visual Standard Committee and Therapeutics Committee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

She is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Dr Troutbeck is a consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in the Ocular Immunology Clinic and is a Clinical Lead in the Acute Ophthalmology Service.

BackgroundDr Robyn Troutbeck completed her ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital in 2008. She subsequently undertook a fellowship in Medical Retina at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear hospital for 18 months followed by another year at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital specialising in uveitis.

Since returning to Melbourne, she is working as a consultant at the Eye and Hospital in the Ocular Immunology Clinic and is a Clinical Lead in the Acute Ophthalmology Service. She also works in the Medical retina clinic at Monash Medical Centre where she is actively involved in clinical trials. She enjoys teaching registrars and fellows.

Robyn’s special interests include macula degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and other vascular diseases, as well as the management of patients with uveitis.

Dr Bob Wang

BackgroundDr Bob Wang is a highly skilled cataract, glaucoma, and medical retina specialist.
He is an experienced cataract surgeon and manages glaucoma with medications, laser (iridotomy, iridoplasty, selective laser trabeculoplasty) and surgery (trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery). He also has expertise in the diagnosis and management (intravitreal injections, retinal lasers) of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases.
After completing degrees in medicine and optometry, Bob undertook ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH). He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Medical Retina at Royal Free Hospital in London, United Kingdom. After returning to Melbourne, he completed a second Fellowship in Glaucoma at the RVEEH.
Bob has a strong interest in research. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented his research at many national and international scientific conferences.
Bob holds public consultant appointments at the RVEEH, The Alfred Hospital and Monash Health.
He has an active role in teaching and mentoring medical students and ophthalmology registrars. Bob is approachable and personable. He prides himself on his problem-solving skills and commitment to finding the best individualised treatment for each patient.
